9 Arrested Over Robbery, Murder Incidents at Fiapre-Zongo

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a total of nine (9) suspects in connection with an alleged robbery and murder incident at Fiapre-Zongo, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality in the Bono Region.

The incident occurred on August 5, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., after the police received a distress call reporting an ongoing robbery at Fiapre-Zongo.

According to the police, officers who responded to the scene were informed that the assailants had already fled after attacking a group of residents. The incident involved five victims, including a mobile money vendor and a female trader.

The victims were identified as Amina Abu, 30, a mobile money vendor; Khadija Abu, 23, a trader; Afina Tanko, 24; and Ibrahim Osei, 40. Another victim was also reported to have sustained injuries during the attack.

Police said the victims were assaulted and shot at during the incident. They were subsequently rushed to the Regional Teaching Hospital in Sunyani for medical attention.

One of the victims, Amina Abu, was allegedly robbed of GH¢30,000 in cash. Police said she sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital, where she underwent medical treatment.

Investigations conducted so far indicate that the suspects allegedly used a cattle truck travelling towards Berekum as their means of transportation before carrying out the operation.

Police said the truck was intercepted at the Twamusikrom checkpoint, where several suspects were arrested.

The nine suspects are currently assisting the police with investigations and are expected to be prosecuted.

The police also reported that two (2) persons died in connection with the incident. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

The Bono Regional Police Command said investigations are continuing and efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects who remain at large.

The Command assured residents that it would pursue the case and ensure that all persons found to have been involved are brought before the court to face the full force of the law.
