The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured a combined 22-year prison sentence for two (2) men convicted in separate stealing-related cases in the region.
The two (2) convicts, Nasiru Mutaru, 20, and Eric Salia, 36, were sentenced to a total of 22 years in prison with hard labour following successful prosecution by the Police.
According to a statement issued by the Upper West Regional Police Command on August 6, 2026, Nasiru Mutaru was arrested on July 11, 2026, following intelligence-led investigations into a series of motorbike thefts in parts of the region.
He was subsequently put before the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Samuel Boafor Amewuho.
After a full trial, the court on August 5, 2026, found Mutaru guilty and sentenced him to 12 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
In a separate case, Eric Salia, 36, was arrested on July 26, 2026, after he allegedly unlawfully entered the residential accommodation of a public officer and stole valuable personal belongings.
Salia was prosecuted before the same court and, after being found guilty, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
The Upper West Regional Police Command said the convictions demonstrate its commitment to pursuing criminal cases and ensuring that offenders are brought before the courts.
The Command assured residents that it would continue working to create a safe and secure environment across the region while intensifying efforts to prevent and investigate criminal activities.
It also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information on suspected criminal activities.
According to the police, cooperation from residents remains essential to preventing crime and strengthening security across communities in the Upper West Region.
