The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight (8) suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting the alleged sale and distribution of narcotic substances and unregulated pharmaceutical products at Okaishie Drug Lane in Accra.
According to the police, the operation was conducted on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of efforts to clamp down on the illegal trade in drugs and pharmaceutical products that could pose risks to public health and safety.
The suspects have been identified as Jeremiah Chinedu, 33, Godsway Dabla, 29, Nwaiyo Charles, 64, Nwachukwu Kanawu, 41, John Divine, Gideon Edioke, 29, Ikechukwu Paul, 60 and Okwesibieze Precious, 23.
A statement from the Police Service said officers retrieved several pharmaceutical products during the operation.
The items included suspected Tramadol tablets in 225mg and 250mg strengths, Rohypnol tablets, codeine-containing products, Benyling products and other assorted pharmaceutical substances.
The police said the seized items had been secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
All eight suspects were in police custody at the time of the announcement, with investigations continuing into their alleged activities.
The operation forms part of the Police Service’s broader efforts to tackle the circulation of narcotic substances and pharmaceutical products sold outside appropriate regulatory controls.
The sale and misuse of certain medicines can present significant public health concerns, particularly when products are distributed without the necessary safeguards or used without proper medical supervision.
The police have reiterated their commitment to combating the illicit drug trade and protecting the public from the associated health and safety risks.
The service has not indicated whether the suspects have been formally charged or appeared before a court.
