Journalists and other media industry stakeholders in the Volta region are lacing up for the fourth (4th) Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Volta Regional Media Awards this weekend
The awards night is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Skyplus Hotel and Resort in the regional capital, Ho, under the theme “Harnessing the Tourism Potential of Ghana into the Future: Positioning Volta Region as the New Frontier”.
The event is expected to recognise journalists whose work has contributed to public awareness creation, accountability and development in Volta, while drawing attention to the role of the media in promoting the region’s tourism potential.
This year’s edition comes at a time when tourism remains an important part of discussions about economic opportunities in the region, which boasts natural attractions, cultural heritage and community-based tourism initiatives.
By choosing tourism as the focus of this year’s awards, the organisers are placing the spotlight on the media’s capacity to tell stories that showcase these attractions, examine challenges facing the sector and encourage investment in local tourist destinations.
The awards also provide an opportunity to reflect on how credible journalistic reporting can influence public discourse, hold institutions accountable and contribute to regional development.
The organisation also forms part of GJA-Volta’s efforts to recognise professional achievement and encourage journalists to maintain high standards in their work.
Entry period for this edition ran from September 7 to October 2, 2026, allowing journalists to submit their work for consideration ahead of the ceremony.
Categories for the award include Sports, Education, Business/Economics, Health/Environment/Science, Agriculture, Gender/Disability, Tourism and Arts, Community Reporting, Best Radio/TV Programme, Best Student Journalist, Most Promising Journalist, Journalist of the Year and Special Recognition Awards category.
As the countdown enters its final days, Saturday’s gathering is expected to bring together media practitioners and other guests to celebrate the contributions of journalists to public service and the development of the Volta Region.
The ceremony will also offer an opportunity to renew discussions on the responsibilities of the media in promoting the region’s tourism industry and telling stories that reflect the experiences, challenges and aspirations of its people.
