New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, has appointed all four of his former contenders in the party’s January 2026 presidential primary as co-chairpersons of newly constituted policy committees.
The appointments form part of a newly introduced policy framework aimed at developing research-based and evidence-driven alternatives across key sectors of Ghana’s economy and governance.
According to the flagbearer’s office, the initiative is intended to position the NPP as a “government-in-waiting” capable of presenting practical and credible policy solutions to Ghanaians rather than functioning solely as an opposition party.
Under the structure, the main NPP Policy Committee will be chaired by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former Minister for Works and Housing and Information. Technocrat Kwasi Nyame Baafi has been appointed Secretary to the Committee.
The committee will supervise several sector-specific policy groups covering areas such as employment, education, health, energy, transport, local governance, land and natural resources, among others.
Each committee is expected to undertake stakeholder consultations, independent research and policy analysis to generate alternative governance proposals for consideration by the party leadership.
As part of the appointments, former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has been named Co-Chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee.
Former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, will serve as Co-Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee.
Former Agriculture and Interior Minister, Bryan Acheampong, has been appointed Co-Chairman of the Defence and Interior Policy Committee, while former Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum, will co-chair the Education Policy Committee.
The flagbearer’s office indicated that the new policy framework reflects Dr Bawumia’s broader vision of shifting the NPP from reactive opposition politics to proactive governance preparation ahead of the next election cycle.
