The District Health Director of the Ghana Health Service in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, Madam Mavis Agumeh has revealed that about 51 health workers have been displaced at the Richard Novati Catholic Hospital popularly known as Comboni Hospital at Sogakope in the South Tongu District.

According to Madam Agumeh, the displaced nurses and other health workers passed the night at the hospital.

“For the staff we have about 51 health workers who are displaced now. Yesterday Chief and the MP did their best, they went round looking for places but at the end of the day it was not fully successful. So, yesterday, most of them passed the night at the hospital’s consulting rooms and Administration. Some are families so is a worrying situation at the Richard Novati Catholic Hospital” she said.

She added that every medication had been packed after receiving calls from other surrounding facilities alerting her about the impending storm.

The director also said that the Comboni hospital’s morgue had been impacted by the spilled water, and that roughly fifty remains had been transferred to the district hospital. Families had come for roughly 40 of the bodies, with the remaining almost 200 needing to be relocated.

She said the hospital is trying to take the remaining bodies to closer facilities around.

She revealed these during the tour of the affected communities by the Volta Regional Minister, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the other disaster management agencies in the affected communities last Friday, October 13, 2023, at Sogakope
