The Paramount Chief of Tefle Traditional Area Togbe Nakakpo Dugbaza VIII has said that any further spillage of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams by the Volta River Authority (VRA) will submerge more communities in the three Tongu Districts.
“If the water level as it is coming now will run for another 10days, I think Tefle will be submerged again” he said.
Togbe Dugbaza said he was afraid looking at how the situation is unfolding with the VRA saying they will continue to spill.
Reiterating his call on the Volta River Authority to halt the spillage, Togbe Dugbaza said: “I am afraid. Regional Minister my heart is aching, CEO, Deputy my heart is aching, NADMO my heart is aching. I saw it. 1963, I saw it myself”.
He was speaking at the South Tongu District Assembly last Friday, October 13, 2023, when the Volta Regional Minister and officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the VRA toured the affected communities to assess the flooding situation as a result of the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
