Coach Carlos Queiroz has officially introduced himself to Ghanaians after his appointment to lead the national team to the 2026 FIFA tournament.

The newly appointed Black Stars head described the opportunity as both an honor and a privilege, adding that he is ready to lead the team to success ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The Portuguese tactician was speaking for the first time since taking over from Otto Addo, who was sacked following two heavy defeats to Germany and Austria in recent international friendlies. The event was held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

In his address, Queiroz expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association president, the board, government, fans, and supporters for the warm welcome and trust placed in him.

The experienced coach, who has managed eight national teams and featured in several major tournaments, said coaching Ghana represents the biggest challenge of his 40-year career. He pledged to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to every decision he makes for the team.

Queiroz emphasised that the “soul of the Black Stars is huge”, noting that since arriving in Ghana he had already felt the passion and energy surrounding the team.

He noted that with such a strong foundation, the dreams and expectations for the side must also be equally big.

He called for unity and cohesion across all stakeholders, including his technical staff, the FA board, the media, and the fans, saying that together as “one Ghana” the country can achieve success and bring happiness to its people.

The former Portugal, Iran, and Colombia coach also highlighted his track record of wins, crediting both God and his players for his achievements over the years.

He further assured Ghanaians of his commitment to giving his best in the role and called for collective effort and support to restore the Black Stars to their competitive best ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
