An administrator at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Fosu-Boakye Isaac, has raised concerns in regard to how many students go through school without clear guidelines for their future profession.
Fosu-Boakye described the situation as a worrying challenge that derails most students.
He noted that the problem is critical, especially for Junior High School (JHS) pupil transitioning to Senior High School (SHS), who should select career paths based on their capabilities.
“Most students are skeptical when it comes to choosing careers in the education system. “This has been very worrying, and it leaves many of our school-going youth confused,” Fosu-Boakye said.
He added that parents and guardians must be intentional about why they send their wards to school and should guide them when selecting programs, particularly from the JHS level.
He also urged students to understand their purpose for choosing specific courses and careers.
That, he said, is only possible when parents carefully study their wards’ capabilities.
“Parents must carefully monitor and guide their wards on what they can do in the future. Whether you want him or her to be a doctor, teacher, lawyer, etc., it must have a purpose. You must have eyes to monitor your child’s capabilities—don’t just allow him or her to choose anyhow,” Fosu-Boakye stated.
He emphasized that choosing a program carefully brings real change in life.
