
Police in Tema have shot two (2) armed robbers who attacked a mobile money (MoMo) vendor at Community 5 in the greater Accra region.
The incident that occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 am involved a MoMo vendor at Aba Fosuah Plaza, Tema Community 5.
A police source said, on the day of the incident, one of the suspects approached the victim under the pretense of transacting business.
“As the victim retrieved her cellphone from her bag to process the transaction, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded that she surrender the bag containing cash. The victim resisted, prompting the rider to join the pillion in the struggle over the bag. In the course of the struggle, the pillion shot the victims in the leg. The victim subsequently released the bag, after which the suspect fled the scene on the motorbike.”
However, a police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operation Unit, who had been assigned for security duties close to the scene, swiftly responded to a distress call regarding the incident, and upon seeing the police, the suspect on a motorbike with registration number M-24-GE 778 opened fire on the police team.
The team further returned fire, and in the course of the exchange, both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and fell off the bike. Source narrated.
The two suspects were rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
