The Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Mensah, has launched a self-funded initiative to extend electricity to eight communities in the constituency, with four receiving power for the first time and four others benefiting from grid extensions.
The project, which is being undertaken with the support of government-supplied electrical materials, is intended to improve access to electricity in communities that have either never been connected to the national grid or have gone decades without expansion of electricity infrastructure.
The communities receiving electricity for the first time are Asuoti, Anaafuor, Abirekyirekrom and Otumfuor Farms while Sikaa, Baafi, Dwenewoho and Bono Manso are benefiting from extensions to the existing electricity network.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing works in some of the beneficiary communities, Hon. Mensah said expanding access to electricity remained a priority because of its impact on healthcare, education and local economic development.
He noted that several communities in the constituency had never been connected to the national grid, while others had not seen any extension of electricity infrastructure since 1998 despite neighbouring communities having access to power.
“I received numerous concerns from constituents urging me to do more on electricity. I’ve already taken steps, and I want to see more areas connected to the national grid, not just for domestic use but also to power businesses and economic ventures,” he said.
The lawmaker explained that he was personally financing the construction component of the project, while the government had supplied the electrical materials required for the connections.
“I’m paying for all construction costs, except the materials, which were provided by the government, as part of my efforts to connect these communities to the national electricity grid,” he said.
Hon. Mensah reaffirmed his commitment to expanding development across the constituency.
“I remain committed to ensuring that every corner of the Nkoranza North Constituency enjoys the full benefits of development. Together, we are lighting up our communities and building a brighter future for all,” he added.
The District Chief Executive for Nkoranza North, Hon. Effah Patrick, commended the Member of Parliament for supporting the electrification project, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to the constituency’s development.
He encouraged residents to remain optimistic about ongoing development efforts and expressed confidence that additional projects would be implemented to improve living conditions across the district.
