Inside Ghana News Service – www.ignewss.com (IGNEWSS) has cited a letter signed by the incumbent Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Juaben Constituency, Mr Zakaria Abdullah, detailing his resignation from his position and withdrawal of his candidature for the constituency chairmanship in the party’s upcoming internal elections.

In a letter dated October 20, 2026, and addressed to the NDC General Secretary at the party’s national headquarters in Accra, Mr Abdullah announced that his resignation would take immediate effect.

He also formally withdrew from the contest for the position of Constituency Chairman, bringing an end to his bid for the leadership position ahead of the party’s internal elections.

Cites allegations against him

Explaining his decision, Mr Abdullah expressed gratitude to friends, relatives and well-wishers who, he said, had continued to support him and maintain faith in his innocence following allegations levelled against him and his office.

Meanwhile, he did not provide details of the allegations in the resignation letter.

Mr Abdullah said he intended to devote his attention and resources to pursuing lawful avenues to clear his name and vindicate his position.

He expressed hope that once the matters had been resolved, he would be able to return to active political engagement and continue contributing to the ideals and aspirations of the NDC.

Thanks party for opportunity to serve

Despite his decision to step down, Mr Abdullah expressed appreciation to the NDC for the opportunity to serve both as a party member and an officer.

He described his time in office as a privilege that allowed him to contribute to the growth and development of a political tradition he deeply valued.

The letter was copied to the NDC National Chairman and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party.

Mr Abdullah’s resignation and withdrawal come as the NDC prepares for its internal elections to select constituency executives and strengthen its organisational structures ahead of future political activities.
