World Vision Ghana has donated relief supplies to households affected by recent flooding in the Agotime-Ziope District of the Volta Region, where about 700 people, including children, were displaced following heavy rains.

The donation, made through the organisation’s Agotime-Ziope Area Programme, was presented to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) through the Agortime-Ziope District Assembly and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency to support ongoing relief efforts.

The relief package included clothing for adults and children, toothpaste, toothbrushes and petroleum jelly to meet the immediate needs of affected families, particularly children and other vulnerable residents whose homes and livelihoods were damaged by the floods.

Presenting the items, Mr. Irvine Aboagye, Regional Operations Manager of World Vision Ghana, said the intervention reflected the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during emergencies.

He noted that natural disasters place significant strain on already vulnerable households and reaffirmed World Vision Ghana’s commitment to working with government agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure timely assistance reaches those in need.

Mr. Eric Opoku Agyarko, Programmes Manager for the Agotime Cluster, said the organisation remains committed to supporting disaster preparedness and emergency response initiatives that safeguard the lives, dignity and well-being of children and their families.

He stressed that effective collaboration among development partners, local authorities and communities is essential for delivering coordinated humanitarian assistance and strengthening community resilience against future disasters.

The items were received on behalf of the district by the Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope, Hon. Charles Agbeve, together with the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Reuben Akuffo; the District Director of NADMO, Mr. Courage Agbah; the District Planning Officer, Madam Khadijah Yakubu; and other officials of the District Assembly.

Receiving the donation, Hon. Agbeve expressed appreciation to World Vision Ghana for what he described as a timely intervention to support families affected by the floods.

He said the relief items would be distributed to affected households to help meet their immediate clothing and personal hygiene needs.

The Member of Parliament noted that the flooding affected several communities across the district, displacing residents and causing extensive damage to homes, personal property and sources of livelihood. He appealed to other humanitarian organisations and development partners to support the district’s relief and recovery efforts.

World Vision Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities before, during and after emergencies through partnerships that strengthen resilience, protect children and help families recover from disasters.
