The District Chief Executive of Agortime Ziofe in the Volta region Madam Emilia Emefa Adzima has bemoaned the drastic rise in figures of the HIV cases in the Agortime Ziofe district.
To her is it causing a serious panic in the district which is likely to affect agriculture if serious attention is not paid to curb the escalate.
She said the Agortime-Ziope District has a total of two hundred and seventy-five (275) persons of which ninety-seven (97) are males and one hundred and seventy-eight (178) being females living with HIV/AIDS as of 2020.
The DCE however expressed fear that, continuing at the rate means one hundred and forty (140) more new infections would be recorded by 2023 if nothing is done to curb the alarming situation in the district.
She appealed to the parents and all stakeholders to rally campaign to ravage the situation.
“We must therefore, endeavour to preach abstinence and safe sex in our communities.” She added.
She observed that diversion of attention from the virus since the arrival of the COVID 19 might be a possible cause to the surge in numbers of infection in the district.
She disclosed that the HIV focal team in the assembly has already put some measures in place to sensitize residents against further spread of the virus.
She further advised the youth and pregnant women to protect themselves and always visit health facilities to check their status to help them know how to live their lives.
