28-year-old SHS graduate adjudge overall best farmer in Agortime Ziope district

The Agortime Ziope in the Volta region has adjudged James Dziwornu Aryee, a 28-year-old Senior High School graduate an overall best farmer for the year 2022.

The district which is known for tomatoes farming in large scales has also honoured six (6) other farmers in addition.

Mr. James Dziwornu Aryee is a native of Denu in the Ketu South district of the Volta region but moved to Wudzedeke near Agbayawoekorfe, a village in the Agortime Ziope district and started his farming activities since 2013.

He has 200 acres of land for his farming activities with ten (10) labourers from the community.

Mr. Aryee cultivated corn, sweet potatoes, garden eggs, groundnuts and other crops covering 100 acres land of his total 200-acre land.

He was presented with a certificate, a chest freezer, a pair of wellington boots and machetes at the district farmers day celebration as the overall best farmer of the year 2022.

In an interview with Inside Ghana News Service (IGNEWSS), Mr. James Dziwornu called on the youth to consider farming to support their livelihood.

Delivery her speech at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agortime Ziope district, Hon. Emilia Emefa Adzima, warned residents to avoid bush burning in the district.

According to her, bush fires have destroyed many farmlands in the Agortime Ziope district.

She further pledged the assembly’s availability to continue its contributions to the development of agriculture in the district.

She urged residents to take advantage of government flagship programmes such as planting for food and jobs, planting for export and rural development, one district, one factory, improved seeds initiative, extension services and introduction of modern technologies to help improve the local economy of the district.

This year’s farmer’s day celebration was held on the theme “Accelerating Agricultural development through value addition.”

The district agriculture director, Mr. Francis Segla commended organisers for the theme chosen for the 2022 farmer’s day celebration adding that it is in a right direction to enable development of Agriculture in the district.

He noted that, the district has already rolled out some practices that would help farmers in the district to make more profits by adding value to the products before sending them to the market.
