Police Arrest Akofena, Two Others Over Adwoa Safo Shooting Incident

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo.

According to a police statement, the suspect voluntarily reported to the Regional Police Headquarters on June 22, 2026, and was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations into the incident.

Police investigations led to a search of the suspect’s vehicle and residence at Kwabenya, during which officers retrieved a cache of ammunition and firearms.

The items recovered included 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of 40-calibre ammunition, additional loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols, one of which is registered in the suspect’s name.

Further investigations by the police resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, who are also alleged to be connected to the case.

The police indicated that all three suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The statement added that the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court today, June 23, 2026, as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and ensuring that all persons found culpable are dealt with in accordance with the law.
