The Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region has disbursed GH¢277,000 from the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) component of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support 57 beneficiaries on Thursday, 22nd October, 2026.
The support covers education, healthcare, income-generating activities, and personal welfare. The beneficiaries received cash grants during a ceremony held in the Nkoranza South Municipal Assembly.
Speaking to Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi after the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkoranza South, Hon. Godfred Dapaa, urged the beneficiaries to use the support for its intended purpose to improve their livelihoods and work towards financial independence.
Hon. Dapaa explained that the government’s decision to increase the DACF allocation for Persons with Disabilities from 3% to 5% will enable more Persons Living with Disabilities to benefit from the programme.
He further noted that reforms in the disbursement process have improved transparency and increased the amount of funds reaching assemblies, which will enhance support for beneficiaries.
“The money coming to the assemblies has increased because a greater percentage of the Common Fund is now released directly to us. This means allocations to Persons with Disabilities will also continue to increase,” he added.
According to the Nkoranza South Social Welfare Director, Mr. Bukari Emmanuel, 57 persons benefited from the fund, 38 persons benefited to undertake income-generating activities including petty trading and table top business, and agriculture, 7 each for medical assistance and caregiving support, and 5 for educational support including Shalom Special School.
Mr. Bukari explained that applicants seeking business support were interviewed to assess their readiness before approval.
“The purpose of this fund is to empower persons with disabilities to become economically independent. Since resources are limited, beneficiaries will continue to be selected in batches as funds become available,” he said.
The beneficiaries commended the municipal assembly and pledged to make proper use of the support to improve their living conditions.
