The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in the Volta Region, Togbe Afede XIV has said corruption undermines our democracy as a nation, and that corrupt officials are like termites at the woodwork, eating at the very foundations of our democracy.
According to the Agbogbomefia, corruption causes leakages in the economy because they are incomes people earn secretly which are never taxed.
He stated that corruption stifles good initiatives because it rewards the less deserving and disrupts state resources, leaks it into private pockets.
He noted that it is a responsibility which the Chiefs must be willing to bear.
“Corruption leads to devisive politics, tribal politics, winner takes-all politics all of which have been harmful to the progress of our nation” he stressed.
Togbe Afede XIV said this on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the grand durbar of 2023 Yam Festival (Te Za) of the people of the Asogli State and the 20th Anniversary Celebration of his enthronement at the Ho Jubilee Park.
