Pupils at the Amedzikope Junior High School (JHS) in the Ketu South municipality of the Volta Region now learn under trees as their dilapidated classroom block currently posed danger.

The dilapidated structure is on the verge of collapse.

Visible cracks in the walls show that the building has not received any renovations since it was constructed.

The structure was built by the community in the early 1990s and has become very weak and negatively affecting teaching and learning in the school.

In an exclusive interview with IGNEWSS reporter, Kingsley Attitsogbui on October 11, 2023, the Assemblyman of the area, Hon. Michael Hodedzi, expressed his worries and frustrations over the building which is gradually collapsing.

He said “the classroom cannot be used for teaching and learning. I remember in 2018 officials in the Ketu South municipality including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at the time, Hon. Elliot Agbenorwu assured to reconstruct the classroom block but to no avail”.

In addition, Mr. Hodedzi said there is no appropriate building for JHS One, Two and Three students for teaching and learning currently and as such the option for them is to continue studying under trees.

He noted with displeasure how he had served several letters written to appropriate authorities to construct the JHS block for the pupils for years but to no avail.

The Assemblyman further appealed to government, the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (Getfund), the Ketu South Municipal Assembly and other agencies to come to the aid of the school to improve teaching and learning for a brighter future for the wards.
