The Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope, Hon. Charles Agbeve, has announced a major development aimed at improving telecommunications and digital connectivity across the district following engagements with the Ministry of Communication on the government’s nationwide telecom expansion programme.

According to the MP, the initiative will see the construction of a new mobile network mast in Kpetoe to boost network coverage, improve call quality, and enhance internet access for residents, businesses, students, and public institutions within the district capital.

The project is expected to address persistent communication challenges that have affected the area for years.

Hon. Agbeve also disclosed that the Ministry is reviewing the performance of existing rural telephony infrastructure in communities such as Akpokope, Obemla, Atsrulume, Keyime, Wudzedeke, and nearby settlements.

The assessment, he explained, will determine whether some of the existing Rural Telephony Initiative (RTI) systems can be upgraded into fully operational MTN network masts to provide stronger and more reliable services.

The MP noted that the development followed a meeting convened by the minister for communication with members of Parliament to outline the ministry’s strategy for expanding telecom and digital access across the country.

During the discussions, Hon. Agbeve advocated for urgent interventions in border communities within his constituency, highlighting Afegame, Batoume Junction, Akpokope, Agodeke, Obemla, Mangoase, and Honugo No. 2 as priority areas requiring improved connectivity.

He particularly emphasised the importance of Batoume Junction, stating that despite the area generating significant revenue for the Ghana Revenue Authority, residents and businesses continue to struggle with poor mobile network services.

According to the MP, the minister assured him that a special intervention package targeting border communities is being developed, with Agotime-Ziope expected to benefit from the rollout.

Hon. Agbeve stated that improved telecommunications infrastructure would greatly enhance education, healthcare delivery, security operations, business activities, digital inclusion, and overall economic development within the district.

Under the national telecom expansion programme, the Ministry plans to construct 300 new cell sites in 2026, another 300 in 2027, and 400 more in 2028.

Agotime-Ziope is expected to benefit through the new mast project in Kpetoe, network realignment works, and the upgrading of RTI facilities in underserved communities.

The MP expressed gratitude to the Minister for Communication for the initiative and pledged to continue engaging relevant authorities to ensure that no community in the district is left behind in the drive toward digital transformation and inclusive development.
