The Ghana Police Service, through the IGP’s Special Operations Team, has arrested 74 individuals during two separate intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling drug trafficking, violent crime, and other unlawful activities in the Upper East Region.
The first operation took place on May 20 2026 at Paga, along the Ghana–Burkina Faso border enclave. During the exercise, police arrested 40 suspects made up of 28 men and 12 women.
Those apprehended included 23 Ghanaians, eight Nigerians, six Burkinabés, one Malian, and one Togolese national. Security officers also seized several parcels and sacks containing substances suspected to be narcotics, together with five motorbikes allegedly used for transportation and distribution.
In a separate operation conducted on May 22 2026, police targeted known criminal hideouts within the Navrongo Municipality, including the Condemned Road Corridor, “After Six” Spot, and “Lighter Inn” Spot.
That swoop led to the arrest of 34 more suspects, consisting of 32 males and two females. Officers further retrieved 11 motorbikes, assorted foreign cigarettes, and quantities of suspected narcotic substances.
The suspects were subsequently brought before High Court Two, presided over by Justice Ernest Pascal Gemadzie. Sixteen of them were remanded into police custody and are scheduled to return to court on 4 June 2026.
According to police, the remaining 22 suspects are undergoing profiling as investigations continue.
Authorities say all suspects remain in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down other persons believed to be linked to criminal operations in the area.
