Residents of Adzimankorpe, a suburb of Ho, the regional capital, have vowed to close a road linking the community to Ho township, specifically the Nfodzo Street, due to perceived neglect by the Assembly and related entities regarding repair works on the vital road.
Eight months ago, unexpected flooding occurred in the Volta regional capital, resulting in a deep hole around a bridge on the Alele stream connected to the community.
Despite post-incident visits by the Regional Minister, Togbe Afede XIV, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and other city authorities, including their assembly member, the residents argue that the area has been left unattended.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of the road, particularly the significant hole posing a danger to those using the road, the residents have given authorities until the end of February to address the issue.
They warn that if nothing is done by then, they will close the road to protect lives, especially during the upcoming rainy season.
“We are issuing this as a warning to the authorities that we will block half of the remaining portion of the road if immediate action is not taken because the relevant authorities, including municipal and traditional leaders, were informed about this issue, but no significant progress has been made towards resolving it yet.” they said
During a visit to the affected area, located between the foot (Valley) of Galenkui mountain and Captain Nfodzo Street off the SDA-Some road, residents complained that despite media engagements and communication with the assembly member, their concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
They expressed surprise at seeing ongoing construction work on another part of the same road, while their area, where the actual challenge exists, has been neglected.
Residents accused the Assembly member of not taking any action to address their safety concerns, and they highlighted the absence of danger signs or streetlights along the stretch.
Navigating through the damage the road poses at night to commuters, one business owner expressed frustration with local governance, stating that the assemblymen have neglected their duty by failing to address the urgent matter after being notified last year.
As a result, the youth from the community have vowed not to welcome any political party that patrols the area during the campaign season until immediate actions are taken.
