The Volta/Oti Regional Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, has emphasized that she personally monitors and ensures that staff of the company under her jurisdiction who do not pay for their electricity consumption get disconnected on moral grounds to set a good example for customers.

According to her, it is the responsibility of consumers to pay for their services, and every staff member also has the responsibility to pay promptly to set a good example for others who are not staff of the company to emulate.

She indicated that if the staff don’t pay promptly and they continue to owe the company, then they may not have the moral right to chase customers to pay or carry out disconnections. Hence, she ensures and even checks and calls out staff members to settle their bills.

“I monitor and ensure every staff pays his or her bills because if you don’t pay your bills, I do ask, what moral rights do you have to go to your customer and say he is owing, I am coming to demand payment and I am coming to disconnect you,” she said.

She urged customers to promptly pay their bills, adding that every worker at the company pays bills, dispelling the perception of the general public that ECG staff do not pay for their electricity consumption.

The Regional Manager was speaking on Ho FM’s Adanu Morning Show hosted by Torgbui Ahorgo I on Monday, February 26, 2024.

Emphasizing the protection of ECG’s properties and other installations, she advised the general public and communities to ensure total protection for such facilities and take ownership of them.

She mentioned that it costs the company a significant amount in operational costs to replace damaged transformers, conductors, cables, and poles. She urged community members to cooperate with the company in identifying individuals responsible for setting indiscriminate bushfires and bring them to justice.

Furthermore, she advised the general public to be cautious of individuals who call them on phones to deceive and dupe them in the name of ECG.

She informed that some unscrupulous persons are taking advantage of the company’s app to defraud customers and potential clients genuinely in need of ECG’s services, warning the public about such activities.
