A 30-year-old farmer has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife in an incident that went viral on social media.

The Agona Nkwanta District Police Command secured the conviction of Emmanuel Kwofie on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, following investigations into the assault.

According to a press release from the Western Regional Police Command, Kwofie is married to Diana Mensah, who deals in second-hand clothing, and the couple live together at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality.

The police said the incident occurred on October 8, 2026, when Kwofie allegedly accused his wife of having an extramarital affair and subjected her to a severe beating.

The assault was captured in a video that subsequently circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the incident.

Kwofie was arrested on October 12, 2026, and arraigned before the Agona Nkwanta District Court on October 14.

The court, presided over by His Worship Mr K. Selorm Dzata, heard the case after the accused was charged with assault.

Kwofie pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.

He was subsequently sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.

The conviction follows police investigations into the incident and the circulation of the video, which brought the alleged assault to public attention.

The case underscores the legal consequences of physical assault within domestic relationships, where disputes do not provide a lawful justification for violence.

The statement announcing the conviction was signed by Chief Superintendent Olivia Et Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command.
