Parents and guardians have been urged to take preventive measures to protect children from malaria, particularly by eliminating conditions that encourage mosquito breeding around homes.
A health promotion officer at Abrafi Women and Children Hospital in Techiman, Ms Gloria Nash, gave the advice during an interview with Kwadwo Ofosu Baffoe.
She identified improper waste disposal, uncovered water storage containers, poor drainage and failure to sleep under treated mosquito nets as practices that increase the risk of malaria transmission.
Ms. Nash urged parents and guardians to keep their surroundings clean, dispose of waste properly, cover water storage containers and clear blocked drains to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
She also encouraged parents to ensure that children sleep under treated mosquito nets as part of efforts to reduce their exposure to malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
Ms. Nash stressed that maintaining clean surroundings and eliminating mosquito breeding sites were essential to preventing malaria and protecting children from the disease.
She called for sustained public education and community participation in malaria prevention, particularly among households with young children.
