The Afram Plains North District Assembly has commissioned a modern livestock market along the Adeemmra–Donkorkrom Road, marking another milestone in the district’s infrastructure and economic development agenda.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Kate Mawusi Babanawo, and attended by a representative of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Otis Morglo, traditional authorities, government officials, stakeholders and members of the public.
The Afram Plains North District Assembly was ranked the best-performing district assembly in the Eastern Region during the 2025 District Performance Assessment.
The newly commissioned livestock market has been designed to provide a modern and organised trading environment for livestock dealers. The facility includes a mosque, a resting area for herdsmen, modern toilet facilities, a slaughterhouse and a fully fenced perimeter constructed to standard specifications.
Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive described the project as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the local livestock industry, improving market conditions and promoting economic growth within the district.
She noted that the facility is expected to increase livestock trade, create employment opportunities, stimulate local commerce and enhance the Assembly’s internally generated revenue to support further development initiatives across the district.
The DCE expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, contractors, development partners and community members whose contributions ensured the successful completion of the project.
She reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to implementing more development projects that will improve livelihoods and accelerate the socio-economic transformation of the district.
The newly established livestock market will officially operate every Saturday, providing livestock farmers, traders and buyers with a dedicated marketplace to conduct business in a safe and well-equipped environment.
The commissioning of the facility forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to modernise agricultural infrastructure and position Afram Plains North as a major livestock trading hub in the Eastern Region.
