The people of Abutia Avetakpo in the Ho West district of the Volta region have threatened not to participate in this year’s election if their numerous challenges are not addressed.

During a town hall meeting held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, to discuss the challenges facing the Avetakpo community, residents emphasized the neglect the community has endured since its foundation.

According to the youth leader of the community, Jonas Tornye, the Ho West district assembly has neglected them regarding development issues in the area.

The youth leader mentioned that about seven (7) communities in the district are experiencing similar challenges.

Mr. Jonas Tornye explained that some chiefs and members of the community have approached their District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ernest Apaw, to inform him about the challenges, but no action has been taken.

He noted that the CHPS compound built by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzra, has been abandoned for 16 years now.

Residents of Abutia Avetakpo, however, have threatened to withdraw from the Ho West district if the government does not address their issues.
