The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Mr. Gershon Dzokoto, has embarked on another regional exercise regarding the fight against corona virus pandemic (Covid-19) in the Volta Region.
The move, according to Mr. Dzokoto, is another phase of activities of the Society to see to it that, the spread of the novel Covid-19 is stopped as well as eradicating it completely to make the Country a Coronavirus free nation.
As part of their activities, the society is donating sets of Personal Protective Equipments(PPE’s) containing Veronica Buckets with a tab to fit, hand washing basins, boxes of nose masks, cakes of carbolic soap and a jumbo hand towels worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
Speaking to the Finder Newspaper, Mr. Dzokoto noted that, the items are to be distributed to various institutions as well as the general public within all the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDA’s) across the Volta Region.
In the Regional Capital, Ho, institutions including the Passport Office, National Service Secretariat (Region), National Service Secretariat (Ho Municipal), Forestry Commission, Ghana Education Service, DOVVSU (Regional CID), Ghana Education Service (Ho Municipal), the Ho Central Market, Zongo Community among others have received their set of items.
Even though recipients were very appreciative of the items donated and pledged to put them into good use, Mr. Dzokoto further observed that, More PPEs should be distributed to cover more communities adding that the nose masks should be especially distributed in the various markets and other public places.
Some volunteers working in the various MDA’s expressed their gratitude to the Ghana Redcross Society Secretariat as they noted that, their works in the grassroots are usually faced with many challenges especially in situations where they lack these PPE’s to send to residents in the communities they visit in the course of their educational outreach programs.
“Most people in the institutions and communities visited hold the view that the corona virus is gone, therefore are relaxed on the safety protocols. There are also lots of misconceptions about the corona virus pandemic and comes with its attendant’s stigma” Some Volunteers lamented.
Meanwhile, Mr. zokoto reiterated that, this is the time Education on corona virus should be intensified so that we eradicate the virus completely from the country as he pledge that his outfit will not relent in their effort to help achieve a coronavirus free society.
The team has so far covered eight(8) out of the total eighteen Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta region and expected to finish with the rest of the MDA’s and move to the Oti region in the subsequent days.
The PPEs were support from the MASTERCARD FOUNDATION.
