The Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in collaboration with the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (IPR Ghana), has launched the IPR-UEW Student Chapter.

The Thursday, August 15, 2024, event saw the participation of esteemed speakers and public relations experts.

Giving the keynote address, Ms. Esther Cobbah, President of IPR Ghana and CEO of STRATCOMM Africa, urged the students to embrace leadership today and also challenge themselves to explore diverse avenues rather than limiting themselves to a single path.

She emphasised the importance of tapping into the expertise of lecturers and recognising that the university environment presents unique challenges.

She further admonished the students to prioritise integrity and avoid being “nobody’s dustbin,” emphasising that PR professionals facilitate business rather than engaging in personal matters.

Kenyan Public Relations Association and African Public Relations Association (AFPRA) president, Arik Karani, provided the students with three key principles: reimagine, reposition, and reinforce.

He underscored the importance of innovative thinking, strategic positioning, and consistent efforts in the field of public relations.

The official induction of the student chapter was a grand affair, with Ms. Esther Cobbah inducting members and swearing in the chapter’s executive team.

Ms. Ivy Heward-Mills, IPR Ghana Student Chapter Coordinator, encouraged the newly inducted members to embrace opportunities, leverage them effectively, and be proud of their achievements.

However, Prof. Albert Agbesi Wornyo, Dean of the School of Communication and Media Studies, urged the IPR Ghana UEW Student Chapter executives to uphold integrity, honesty, and transparency in their endeavours.
