An African and international relations expert, Mr. Kwabena Agyei, popularly known as Ras Copper, has called on African leaders to prioritise job creation for young people as a way of reducing the increasing rate of migration among African youth seeking better opportunities abroad.

Speaking in an interview on ASTA FM’s Kokrokoo Morning show on Friday, 29 May 2026, Mr. Agyei expressed concern over recent incidents involving the repatriation of Ghanaians from countries such as South Africa and Cambodia.

According to him, many young Africans undertake dangerous journeys to foreign countries due to unemployment, economic hardship, and the lack of opportunities in their home countries.

He noted that Africa is richly blessed with abundant natural resources capable of transforming the lives of its citizens.

However, he attributed many of the continent’s socio-economic challenges to poor leadership, weak governance systems, and the failure of leaders to properly harness these resources for national development.

He stressed that significant investments in industrialisation, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and skills development could create millions of employment opportunities for the youth and reduce the growing desire to seek greener pastures overseas.

The international relations expert further appealed to African governments to implement sustainable economic policies that would attract investment, stimulate growth, and empower young people through decent employment opportunities.

He further added that improving living conditions and creating jobs across the continent would not only help curb migration but also promote peace, stability, and long-term development in Africa.
