President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the boards of nine (9) state-owned institutions with immediate effect as part of an ongoing administrative reorganisation of key public enterprises and agencies.
The affected institutions are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the National Sports Authority.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson to the president and minister for government communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the dissolution takes immediate effect.
The President has directed the relevant sector ministers to take all necessary steps, in accordance with the applicable laws and governing instruments, to give effect to the dissolution of the boards.
Boards to be Reconstituted
According to the statement, the boards of the affected institutions will be reconstituted in due course.
The move affects institutions operating across several strategic sectors of the economy, including energy, mining, banking, transport, real estate, postal services, and sports.
The institutions play key roles in the management of state assets, provision of public services and implementation of government policy across their respective sectors.
The dissolution forms part of the government’s broader administrative measures to reorganise the governance structures of selected state institutions.
Until new boards are constituted, the relevant management structures are expected to continue operating in accordance with their respective governing laws and directives from the responsible sector ministries.
The Presidency said further steps concerning the reconstitution of the boards would be communicated in due course.
