The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old former professional boxer, Michael Aytoi Okay, also known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat to the life of the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo.
The arrest was confirmed by the Accra Regional Police Command in a press release issued on Monday, August 24, 2026.
According to a police source, the arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media in which the suspect allegedly issued the threat against the NSA Director-General.
Michael Aytoi Okay is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command said investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and determine the appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The Command has urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified information about the case while investigations continue.
The police assured the public that further updates would be provided as developments emerge.
