The Women’s Wing of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) in the Volta Region in collaboration with the Ho Teaching Hospital, Ho Municipal Hospital and Ho Municipal Assembly have organized a breast cancer awareness and screening program dubbed “Eno Gbe (Breast Day)” at the Ho central market.
The main aim was to create awareness, educate and screen both women and men of Ho as part of efforts to prevent, detect and cure breast cancer.
The screening was carried out by a team of medical staff from the Ho Teaching hospital, Polyclinic and Municipal Hospital.
The awareness creation was carried out by a team of Medical Laboratory Scientists whilst the planning committee constituted a team of Medical Laboratory Scientist led by the Women’s wing commissioner, MLS Patience Ama Tanson who doubles as the Head of the Laboratory at the Ho Polyclinic.
The 6 hour “ENGOBE (BREAST DAY)” program saw a total of 146 women who went through a successful screening exercise.
At end of the program, about nine percent of the participants were found to have issues that required further probing and diagnosis.
They were further counselled and referred to the Ho Teaching Hospital for further assessment.
