The Public Relations Officer of the Dormaa Central Municipal Health Insurance Authority, Mr. Danso Yeboah, has urged Ghanaians to disregard the negativity surrounding the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and register themselves as soon as possible for their benefit.

Mr. Danso Yeboah noted that it is incorrect for people to claim that there is no basis for the NHIS, and therefore, one does not need to get registered.

He emphasized the benefits of the National Health Insurance Scheme, highlighting that it covers a variety of ailments, including some cancers.

It is wrong, he argued, to characterize the policy as useless due to the wrongdoings of some healthcare providers.

He called on all insurance clients to visit the National Health Insurance Scheme office for sensitization and education on how the insurance should be utilized to avoid issues of top-up and co-payment, which have been the main challenges of the Scheme in recent times.

On his part, Mr. Felix Oppong Yeboah, the Municipal Manager of the Dormaa Central Health Insurance Authority, noted that their core challenges regarding health insurance relate to co-payments and top-ups charged by some healthcare providers.

He indicated that, apart from these challenges, there has been a significant improvement in the policy due to the digitalization agenda introduced by the Akufo Addo/Bawumia NPP administration.

He explained that the introduction of the MyNHIS APP has made it easy for people to register for the Health Insurance Scheme from the comfort of their homes, reducing the workload at the Health Insurance offices.

He emphasized that healthcare providers should stop extorting money from health insurance holders who seek treatment at the hospital, as it is zero payment for health insurance holders receiving healthcare.
