The Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Council, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu II, who also serves as the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, has voiced concerns regarding the frequent reports of leakages and wastage of public funds highlighted by the Auditor-General.
He emphasized the lack of clear action on the part of the government to address this challenge.
During a visit by Madam Harriett Thompson, the UK’s High Commissioner to Ghana, to his palace, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II questioned whether the political leadership of the country is utilizing taxes and international support judiciously.
He pointed out that the Auditor-General’s reports consistently reveal leakages in public funds that could have otherwise improved the lives of the citizenry.
Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II appealed to the government not to perceive criticisms as attacks but rather to embrace them as guidance for addressing the issues confronting the country.
He emphasized the need for a decisive and comprehensive approach to tackling these challenges.
Expressing gratitude to Madam Thompson, Osagyefo Dr. Agyemang Badu II commended her for actively engaging with political parties and other stakeholders ahead of general elections to promote peaceful, free, transparent, and fair elections.
He expressed concern about the fear and panic that often precede elections in Ghana, urging the Electoral Commission to ensure adherence to the principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections, discouraging any practices that deviate from these standards.
Madam Thompson assured that the trade, business, and investments section of the High Commission would explore possibilities for bringing in private investments to boost poultry farming and the cashew business in the Dormaa enclave.
She highlighted the UK’s ongoing support to the people of Bono, Bono East, and the Ahafo regions and pledged to deepen the bilateral agreement between Ghana and the UK to ensure peaceful coexistence and the growth of Ghana.
