The Students Representative Council of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has planned to spend some GH₵65,260 on its activities for this year’s Akwaaba week celebration.
The Akwaaba celebration is a week-long activity undertaken by the SRC to welcome newly admitted students of the school.
The financial allocation was approved by the General Assembly of the SRC at an emergency sitting on Saturday, September 15.
According to sources, the budgetary allocation was first rejected by General Assembly members but after the SRC argued that the set period for the celebration was due, it was accepted by G.A members at its emergency sitting.
In the budget, GHC 5,500 was going to be used for an Akwaaba Pageant.
It was also estimated that GHC 26,900 would be used for an Akwaaba trip.
