Ghana’s 2nd independence will be NDC’s 2024 election victory – Asiedu Nketia

The newly elected Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has asserted that the NDC is taking the 2024 election to regain the second independence for the country.

According to the National chairman-elect, known on the political scene as General mosquito, who had served in the capacity of General Secretary for 17 years, “it is an election to regain the independence of this country just as the forefather have sacrifice, to win independence from the colonial governments. We believe that it is our time to continue the fight to win the second independence of Ghana.” He stressed.

Addressing the delegates at the 10th national congress for the first time as the party’s newly elected national chairman, Mr Asiedu Nketia believed despite “the path will not be smooth” for them as a party, they will stand up to the challenge.

“We are prepared to sacrifice everything including our lives to make sure the country is delivered.” He stated.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia won the National Chairmanship race with a total of 5,569 votes ahead of his bitter revival, the former chairman Mr. Ofosu Ampofo who manage just 2,892 votes behind.

Asiedu Nketia however described the current state of the party as “being on crossroad” and therefore cautioned the party to sacrifice their all to enable them to win the upcoming election.

“Whenever impunity has become law, resistance become a duty” He reiterated.

He therefore urged all those who contested to consider this as a victory for the NDC adding that it is an indication that the party needs to survive and adapt capacities.

He said he will take the responsibility to make sure that the deployment of all resources of the party will be complete to prepare the party’s battle readiness for victory 2024.

However, Awudu Sofo Azouka and Sherry Aryitey takes the first and second deputy Chairmanship positions respectively whiles former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South constituency, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has been elected as the general secretary of the party.

Barbara Serwa Asamoah and Mustapha Foyo Gbande were elected as deputy secretaries.

Other executives elected are Hon. Joseph Yamin, National Organizer, with Barlon Kobby and Elikem Eric Kotoko as first and second Deputy organizer respectively.

Meanwhile the National Communications officer Sammy Gyemfi who went unopposed retained his position with Malik Basintale and Godwin Ako Gunn emerging the first and second Deputy Communication officer respectively.

Zongo Caucus positions went to Mamah Mohammed Cole Younger.
