Blood Drive Ghana has organised a blood donation exercise at Legon in the Greater Accra Region, bringing together individuals and groups to support voluntary blood donation and promote healthy living.
The initiative also provided an opportunity for participants to access various health screenings and products while encouraging members of the public to donate blood to help replenish the national blood bank.
The president of the Rotaract Club of Accra East Legon, Flora Puopele, said supporting people in society was one of the club’s core objectives, adding that participating in the exercise was consistent with its commitment to community service.
She said the club was represented at the event to support the initiative and help ensure the smooth organisation of the programme.
A Medical Laboratory Scientist at Achimota Hospital, John Kyeh, urged the public to make voluntary blood donation a regular practice, emphasising its importance in saving lives, particularly those of accident victims and other patients who require urgent blood transfusions.
He encouraged eligible individuals to respond whenever the need for blood donation arose or voluntarily visit health facilities to donate.
Mr Kyeh stressed that a steady supply of donated blood was essential to meeting the needs of patients and supporting emergency medical care.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Africero Fitness Entertainment and Entertainment and Wellness Officer of the Accra Ubuntu Lions Club, Coach John Debrah, encouraged the public to incorporate physical exercise into their daily routines.
He explained that regular physical activity could help reduce stiffness, improve mobility and promote healthy blood circulation, contributing to overall well-being.
Another participant and volunteer, Mr Daniel Agbenu, also appealed to the public to volunteer their time and resources to support blood donation initiatives.
He said sustained public participation and volunteer support were necessary to help maintain adequate blood supplies and ensure that patients in need could access blood when required.
The organisers and participants called for greater public involvement in voluntary blood donation and healthy lifestyle practices to support community health and save lives.
