The Asogli State Council has objected to the attempt to rename Ho Technical University (HTU) after Dr. Ephraim Amu. This objection follows several attempts by the government to pursue the same course.
In a press release signed by Mr. Stephen Tetteh, the Secretary of the Council, and addressed to His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, the President of the country, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. C.K Amexo, the Registrar of HTU, among others, the members of the Asogli State Council expressed unanimous disapproval of the decision to rename the university.
“The Asogli State Council wishes to remind the authorities of Ho Technical University that major decisions affecting the university should be made in consultation with relevant stakeholders to avoid conflict and unnecessary confrontation,” the press release stated.
The Council members also questioned the motive behind the rush to rename HTU, seeing no serious justification for such a move other than political expediency.
They reiterated their total objection and emphasized that the institute should remain Ho Technical University.
Togbe Adzilakle Howusu III, the Chief of Ho Dome and Warlord of Asogli State, presented the petition to Mr. Amexo, stressing that the government should consult and engage with them as they played vital roles in establishing the university.
Mr. Amexo received the petition and assured that HTU would reconsider the matter.
