The Minority Chief Whip and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency, Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh, has chided President John Mahama over what he described as poor management of Ghana’s cocoa sector despite the experience he has gained in governance.
According to him, it is not too late for President Mahama to consult former President Akufo-Addo on how to manage cocoa-related issues, stressing that Akufo-Addo’s tenure as president also experienced a significant reduction in cocoa price on the world market but never reduced the cocoa producer price because of his goodwill towards cocoa farmers.
Speaking during the minority Caucus engagement with Cocoa Farmers at Asunsu No.1 in the Dormaa Central Constituency, he said the NDC, instead of learning governance from the NPP, has rather resorted to insults but insisted the minority will continue to sensitize and educate Ghanaian Cocoa farmers to know the damage President Mahama has caused them.
Hon. Onyina Acheampong Akwasi Gyamfi, the Member of Parliament for Kwabre East Constituency, stated that the Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament will collaborate with the cocoa farmers to ensure that the government fulfills its financial obligations to them.
He mentioned that the NDC government intends to offer a more favorable cocoa producer price for cocoa farmers during the election year as a strategy to alleviate the farmers’ hardships and gain their votes.
However, he warned the farmers not to be misled by such tactics, as he believes the NDC has a history of deceiving Ghanaians without delivering substantial benefits.
