The National Chairman for the Bulk Tanker Drivers Union, Mr. Clement Ampadu has issued serious concern over the rate at which tanker drivers’ lives at Kumasi Depot are being threatened as a result of snake bites.

He describes the situation as unfortunate; deepening calls on Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) to give appropriate attention to it.

According to him, three (3) tanker drivers have been bitten by snakes in just two weeks, of which one succumbed to death and two others were hospitalized.

Mr. Ampadu noted that the situation is a result of the inappropriate parking space of the tankers at the Kumasi depot.

He also revealed that two fully filled tankers fell into a ditch while parked, due to the sloping nature of the parking yard, adding that authorities failed to level up the yard despite several calls.

He added that several letters were sent to the current managing director of BOST concerning the anxieties faced by the drivers, but all have fallen on deaf ears.

He has cautioned about a possible future consequence if nothing is done about the problems.
