The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North, Joseph Kwasi Mensah, has cut the sod for the construction of a new three-unit classroom block at Alataline, a community near Kranka in the Bono East Region, in a move aimed at improving access to quality education and creating a safer learning environment for pupils.
The project, which is being financed through the MP’s allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), will include a teachers’ office, a KVIP sanitation facility, and a urinal. Construction is expected to be completed within four months.
Speaking at a ceremony held on June 8, 2026, Mr Mensah said the intervention became necessary following an assessment that revealed the existing classroom structure had deteriorated significantly and posed a serious safety risk to both pupils and teachers.
“The old classroom block had become unfit for purpose and constituted a danger to the children using it. We could not allow teaching and learning to continue under such conditions,” he said.
According to the MP, Alataline was selected for the project based on the urgency of its educational infrastructure needs, with the deteriorating state of the existing building making immediate intervention necessary.
Government Commitment to Rural Education
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North, Effah Patrick, popularly known as Hon. Patoo, welcomed the initiative and described it as a significant step toward improving educational facilities in rural communities.
He said the new classroom block would provide a healthier, safer, and more conducive environment for teaching and learning while supporting efforts to reduce disparities between urban and rural schools.
“This project reflects the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and ensuring that children in rural communities have access to the same quality learning environment as their counterparts elsewhere,” he said.
Community Welcomes Intervention
The traditional leader of Alataline, Morro Naa, expressed appreciation to the member of Parliament, the District Chief Executive (DCE) and the District Assembly for responding to the community’s longstanding concerns.
He recalled that the poor condition of the old school building had created major challenges, particularly during the rainy season when teaching and learning were frequently disrupted.
“Whenever it rained, both teachers and pupils struggled to use the facility. In some cases, teachers stopped attending classes because of the conditions,” he said.
Morro Naa expressed optimism that the new classroom block would restore confidence in the local school system, improve attendance, and encourage greater enrolment among children in the community.
Boosting Educational Outcomes
The new facility is expected to be completed before the end of the 2026 academic year and is anticipated to enhance educational delivery in the area by providing modern infrastructure and improved sanitation facilities.
Residents and education stakeholders believe the project will contribute significantly to improving learning outcomes and ensuring that children in Alataline have access to a safe and supportive educational environment.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by local authorities and government representatives to strengthen educational infrastructure and promote quality education in underserved communities across the Bono East Region.
