The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested and arraigned three suspects in connection with the alleged lynching of a 19-year-old man at Sabon Zongo in Kumasi.

The suspects are accused of their involvement in the death of Yusuf Zakari, who was allegedly attacked by a mob on July 19, 2026, after being accused of stealing cattle.

According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on July 21, 2026, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was assaulted by a group of people at a cattle kraal in Sabon Zongo.

Police said Yusuf Zakari sustained severe injuries during the attack and was rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Following investigations, police arrested Moses Adoko, 37, a plumber, Abubakar Adams, 25, a herdsman and Nurudeen Sulemana, 35, a motor mechanic.

The three suspects have since been arraigned before the Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Worship Mrs. Hilda Esther Wryter.

The court remanded the accused persons into police custody and adjourned the case to August 7, 2026, for their next appearance.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other individuals who may have participated in the attack.

Police appealed to the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressing that suspected criminals should be handed over to law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution through the courts.

The command also called on anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or contact the police emergency numbers.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that everyone connected with the incident is brought before the courts to face justice in accordance with the law.
