What is often a day of personal celebration became an occasion of charity and community service as Sena Setordzi Dorvlo, the Volta and Oti regional coordinator of the Minerals Development Fund and an aspiring vice chairperson of the Ho Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marked her birthday by supporting residents of the Ho Leprosarium and other vulnerable groups.

The outreach initiative formed part of Mrs Dorvlo’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian service and social inclusion, particularly for individuals and communities that are frequently marginalised.

Speaking during the event, she said she has consistently used her birthdays as an opportunity to give back to society and demonstrate solidarity with people facing difficult circumstances.

“My desire has always been to use my birthday to support those who are often forgotten and neglected by society,” she said.

According to Mrs. Dorvlo, vulnerable groups—including persons affected by leprosy, orphans, widows, inmates, and children living with disabilities—deserve dignity, care, and equal opportunities to participate fully in community life.

She noted that many individuals within these groups continue to face social exclusion and inadequate support, making community-driven interventions essential.

“We must ensure that they feel loved, accepted, and valued. No one should be left behind because of their circumstances,” she stated.

Commitment to Humanitarian Service

Mrs. Dorvlo explained that the outreach was part of a broader pattern of charitable activities she has undertaken over the years. She recounted previous visits to widows, correctional facilities, and other vulnerable populations, describing such engagements as both rewarding and motivating.

This year’s celebration placed particular emphasis on supporting children living with mental and physical disabilities.

She described the opportunity to spend time with and assist the children as deeply meaningful and pledged to continue dedicating future birthday celebrations to humanitarian causes.

“It has always been my dream to support vulnerable children and bring hope to those who need it most. This is something I intend to continue doing,” she said.

Promoting Women’s Empowerment

Beyond her personal philanthropic efforts, Mrs. Dorvlo highlighted the work of Dynamic Diamond Ladies, a women-focused organisation committed to advancing the welfare and economic empowerment of women within the community.

According to her, the group provides emotional support, mentorship, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship assistance to help women improve their livelihoods and achieve financial independence.

She explained that some beneficiaries receive start-up capital and business support to establish small enterprises, enabling them to create sustainable sources of income for themselves and their families.

“Economic empowerment is one of the most effective ways to improve the lives of women and strengthen communities,” she said.

Call for Collective Action

Mrs. Dorvlo called on community leaders, development partners, and residents to work together to build a more inclusive society where vulnerable groups receive adequate support and women are empowered to contribute meaningfully to local development.

She emphasised that collective action is essential to creating stronger communities, improving living conditions, and expanding opportunities for all citizens.

“We need unity and shared responsibility to ensure that vulnerable people are cared for, women are empowered, and our communities continue to develop,” she said.

The event brought smiles to beneficiaries at the Ho Leprosarium and underscored the importance of community support initiatives aimed at promoting social inclusion and improving the lives of disadvantaged groups.
