Sixty (60) persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Nkoranza North District of the Bono East Region have received cash grants and livelihood support worth GH₵200,000 under the Persons with Disabilities component of the District Assemblies Common Fund.
The beneficiaries received the support on Thursday, July 2, 2026, to assist them in improving their economic livelihoods and meeting essential needs, including business development, agriculture, education and healthcare.
Several beneficiaries said they intended to invest the funds in poultry farming, trading and other income-generating activities to improve their financial independence.
Presenting the support on behalf of the District Assembly, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Patrick (Patoo), said the government remained committed to programmes that improve the welfare of persons with disabilities and reduce their socio-economic vulnerabilities.
He urged beneficiaries to use the assistance responsibly to enhance their living conditions.
“This is the fifth tranche of the District Assemblies Common Fund disbursement since the government took office. The government is doing everything possible to support you and reduce your vulnerability,” he said.
Hon. Effah Patrick also credited the government for increasing the allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund for persons with disabilities from 3 percent to 5 percent, describing the move as a demonstration of its commitment to promoting the welfare of persons with disabilities.
He further disclosed that the District Assembly had secured land for the construction of a workshop that would provide vocational opportunities for persons with disabilities in the district.

The District Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Mr. Osei Emmanuel, said his department would closely monitor the use of the funds and equipment distributed to ensure they served their intended purpose.
He explained that the support provided was based on individual needs assessments submitted by beneficiaries.
“We disbursed items and cash to 60 persons with disabilities today, and we are optimistic that more beneficiaries will be added in the coming weeks,” he said.
According to Mr. Osei, the items distributed included refrigerators, fufu-pounding machines and cash support for healthcare, education and business expansion.
He noted that while demand for assistance continues to increase, some requests exceed the available resources, making effective monitoring and equitable distribution essential.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ofori Clement, Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD) in Nkoranza North, expressed appreciation to the District Assembly, the Member of Parliament and the government for the support.
He welcomed the increase in the allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund for persons with disabilities, saying it reflected a stronger commitment to improving their welfare.
Mr. Clement also encouraged beneficiaries to invest the support wisely to improve their livelihoods and create sustainable sources of income.
