The Tricycle Riders and Owners Union popularly called “Can Do Riders” in the Ho Municipality of the Volta region have petitioned the Municipal Chief Executive of Ho, Hon. Divine Richard Komla Bosson over the implementation of daily toll Levy by the assembly after 4 days into the operations.
The union in their petition dated 6th May, 2022 and signed by the Chairperson Francis Alaga and his Secretary is requesting the assembly to withdraw the daily toll Levy of Ghc1.00 until further notice or be ready to bear their actions.
According to them, the union has already been paying some levies to the assembly that includes embossment fee of Ghc50.00 and also an annual Levy of Ghc 10.00 which has not yet expired before the introduction of the new daily toll.
They also noted that the members have been paying a lorry park Levy of Ghc2.00 everyday.
The Union’s agitation according to the petition also listed the current economic hardship the member are going through regarding the high cost of fuel prices, spare parts and maintenance which is affecting their business.
Ho Municipal Assembly on May 2, 2022 imposed a daily toll levy on Taxi drivers, Can do riders and the Motor riders in the Municipality.
However, the Municipal Finance Officer (MFO), Mc-George Afetorgbor has revealed that, despite some hit up of indiscipline experienced on Thursday May 5, 2022, the assembly has however made some progress in the collection even though they have not hit the One Thousand cedis daily target.
