Togbe Korbadzi III, the Dufia of Gefia, in the Akatsi South District of the Volta region over the weekend has launched this year’s Denyigbanya Za (festival) in a massive community durbar at Gefi
The 63rd annual celebration was launched under the theme: “I Am Because You Are”.
Gefia Denyigbanyaza (festival) is the Annual Pilgrimage of the People of Gefia under the Avenor Traditional Council of the Volta Region. The festival was instituted 63 years ago to encourage the citizens of Gefia to travel far and near to know their land of birth and to help develop it.
Torgbui Korbadzi III in his speech at the launch, called for the spirit of oneness for the development of the area “a person becomes a person through other persons”, and it is only through the spirit of oneness that the Gefia community can see massive development.
He urged the citizens to embrace communalism as a step to achieving a prosperous community, adding that communal effort is required in order to develop a healthy and prosperous community. Communities that are united in mind and purpose develop faster as compared to communities that are disunited.
The Chairman of the Gefia Central Development Committee, Mr. Victor Gbeku, encouraged the entire community to come on board and fully participate in all line-up activities toward the ground durbar expected to climax December 27, 2023.
Hon. Jerry Agbo, the Assembly Member of the Gefia Electoral Area, in his remark, commended the Gefia community for the numerous self-help projects it is undertaking to improve facilities in the Gefia R. C. Basic School, which have led to increasing enrolment in the school.
Mr. Peter Kofi Aklasu, an educationist, also urged members of the community to support the works of the Gefia Central Development Committee by transferring their children back to the Gefia R. C. Basic School as efforts are underway to get enough Teachers to fill the vacancies that existed from the Kindergarten to Junior High School departments of the school.
Gefia Denyigbanyaza Celebration is an embodiment of the cultural end-of-year activity of the people of Gefia. The planning committee that scheduled activities for this year’s celebration stated that it will not be limited to health walk, clean-up exercise, musical concert, cultural performance, and many others.
The Denyigbanyaza Planning Committee of the Gefia Central Development Committee has also been tasked to be responsible for planning and celebrating the festival.
