A joint police-military operation has led to the arrest of 11 people in connection with the possession of suspected illegal firearms and ammunition at Kromase near Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The operation, conducted as part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to maintain peace and security in the area, targeted suspected persons believed to be in possession of illicit weapons.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the operation resulted in the recovery of one black pump-action gun, 21 rounds of AA ammunition, two BB live cartridges, one locally manufactured ammunition belt and a piece of police-embossed cloth.
The 11 suspects, aged between 17 and 70, are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The recovered items have also been secured as exhibits and will form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The police and military said they would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and removing illegal firearms and other security threats from the Nkwanta area.
The security agencies have also appealed to residents to provide credible and timely information to assist efforts to safeguard peace and security in the area.
