The Western North Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a fatal shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District that claimed the lives of two people, while eight police officers involved have been interdicted pending the outcome of the probe.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, July 7, the Command said calm had been restored to the community following the incident, which occurred after a confrontation between members of the Sayerano community and a police patrol team.
According to preliminary findings, three people sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. Two of the victims later died from their injuries, while the third is receiving medical treatment at the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital.
The statement further disclosed that all eight officers involved in the incident have been interdicted. The Inspector-General of Police has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders for their cooperation in helping to restore calm in the area.
It also assured the public of its commitment to a transparent and thorough investigation, pledging to provide updates as new developments emerge.
The police have not yet disclosed the identities of the deceased or the interdicted officers, and the circumstances that led to the confrontation remain under investigation.
