The Ghana Police Service has engaged owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks over concerns about the impact of concrete transportation activities on road safety and road infrastructure in Accra.
The engagement, held on Thursday, August 27, was organised under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat and brought together stakeholders involved in the operation of concrete mixer trucks, as well as road safety and road traffic regulatory agencies.
The meeting was led by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and focused on concerns arising from the movement of concrete mixer trucks and their impact on road users and road infrastructure.
Stakeholders raised concerns about the spillage of concrete and other construction materials on roads by mixer trucks, noting that such incidents could obstruct traffic, create hazards for motorists and pedestrians, and damage road surfaces.
Owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks were therefore urged to take measures to prevent concrete and other construction materials from being discharged or left on roads during transportation and other operations.
The police subsequently announced a temporary restriction on the movement of concrete mixer trucks within Accra.
Under the directive, the operators were given notice that from Friday, August 28, to Sunday, August 30, 2026, concrete mixer trucks would not be permitted to operate on roads within Accra and Tema.
The temporary measure is intended to facilitate the cleaning and clearing of road surfaces affected by concrete and other construction materials.
The police warned that any concrete mixer truck found operating in Accra during the restriction period would be subject to appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law.
Representatives of the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ghana Highways Authority, as well as owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks, participated in the engagement.
The Police Service said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve road safety, protect road infrastructure and ensure greater compliance with traffic regulations.
